Russia’s state media reported that Russian police have uncovered one of the most appalling cases of cannibalism that they have ever seen. Pictures of the dismembered bodies were found on a cell phone, stated to be owned by one of the suspects.
A 35 year old man and his wife, have been arrested and charged with murdering and eating as many as 30 people since 1999. Russian police have been trying to identify all of the victims of this horrific crime, and have figured out who seven of the people are so far.
A cell phone was found on a street in Krasnodar with pictures of a man posing with a dismembered body. The victims remains were found in a bag near where the cell phone was located, according to news agency RIA Novosti.
The man initially denied killing the woman, suggesting that he found the remains of the victim and merely posed with it, before losing his phone. Many of the details of this case are still yet to be confirmed, but a source told news agency RIA Novosti that, “At the moment, law enforcement had discovered a glass jar with a hand inside.”
Allegedly, the owner of the phone stated that the hand in the jar is one of the hands that he took a selfie with. So far the man has only admitted to two murders, the one identified in the cell phone pictures and another person in 2012.
CNN has contacted the Investigative Committee in Moscow for confirmation of the details of the case, however they have not received any information from them as of yet. This revolting crime is the latest in many serial killings occurring in Russia.
Earlier in 2017, former policeman Mikhail Popkov was convicted of 22 murders, and charged with 60 additional ones. Popkov carried out the murders in a twenty year span.
