On the Halloween special of the “Today Show,” Megyn Kelly pulled out all the stops. Kelly tried to pull of her rendition off Shania Twain’s “Man! I Fell Like A Woman.”
NBC’s country-themed Halloween show on Tuesday was supposed to be light and fun for the guests and the audience. When Kelly hit the stage in an imitation of the outfit Twain wore in the “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” video, you could actually hear how uncomfortable everyone was.
Kelly’s costume consisted of a black corset, black hat and thigh high boots. She even attempted to perform the song, grabbing the microphone, awkwardly shaking her hips and…singing?
Be warned, the clip is cringeworthy.
Twain actually watched Kelly’s awful performance, as she was to appear on the show. Twain is ever-gracious, however even she was a bit embarrassed for the fledgling host.
Kelly’s new show, “Megyn Kelly Today” has absolutely bombed in the ratings. With Kelly reportedly making a salary of $17 million a year and a new set having been constructed, “Megyn Kelly Today” is more costly than the previous 9 a.m. segment of “Today.” Losing viewers, in the long run, will be a problem.
Last month, executives were reportedly in “total panic” over fear that non-Caucasian women and younger audiences would not watch the show or have any interest in what Kelly had to say. Kelly may have been adapt at debating political issues at Fox, however she lacks what it takes to make it in daytime television.
“The problem is that Kelly, for all her forced bonhomie, is more chilly than chill,” Time said in its analysis of Kelly’s debut performance.
Kelly is skilled at verbal debates and bringing down her guests, which is a necessity for current affair type programming, however Time observed that Kelly came across as “awkward” when she tried to use slang to tone down her edge.
